How would a more Sentientist world work?

How would a more Sentientist world work? How can sentientists change things? How can you help – as an individual, a citizen and community member, an employee, a leader, an activist, a consumer?

There are many changes we need to make to move towards a more rational, compassionate world and many ways we can make those changes happen.

With respect to the changes we need, this article sets out some ideas about “What things might disappear in a Sentientist world”. We’re building pages here (please help us improve them) about how we might need:

• Sentientist Law: See this paper by John Bolliger, the World Moot on International Law and Animal Rights, Sabine Brels’ World Animal Justice and Animals and the Constitution – Towards Sentience-Based Constitutionalism by John Adenitire and Raffael Fasel, as examples
• Sentientist Ceremonies: There are religious ceremonies and Humanist ceremonies. So why not Sentientist ceremonies? Many people already hold ceremonies for non-human sentients – here’s a listen about companion animal funerals. Some non-human sentients seem to as well – see Barbara King’s work on animal grieving
• Sentientist History: See this new University of California Press journal, “Animal History” as an example
• Sentientist Healthcare and Nutrition: Healthcare for all sentients, human and not. Evidence-based medicine and lifestyle advice. Ensuring claimed benefits for plant-based diets for both humans and companion and free-ranging animals are well-evidenced. The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine and Plant-based Heath Professionals do interesting work. With respect to the ways we can drive change, we can do this through our roles in government, NGOs & charities and corporations as well as through our personal choices. This piece suggests some “Ideas about how you can help advance the sentientism movement” focusing on tactical awareness raising. We’ll add more to this page about the existing and maybe new campaigns that align with Sentientism.
