Sentientism Meet-Up 25 Oct 2025 (and some other updates)

If you’re in range of London on the 25th October 2025, come and join our second ever in person meetup. This time, given Autumn is upon us in this part of the world, we’re meeting indoors. As with all of our communities and events it’s open to anyone interested in the Sentientism worldview whether you agree with “evidence, reason, and compassion for all sentient beings” or not. You can find the details here on Eventbrite. Many thanks to Michael for organising us! For those in and around London more generally, come join our Sentientism London WhatsApp Group too (thanks to Patrick for hosting.)

While you’re here, a few other updates:

  • I had the pleasure of talking to Lawrence Anton on his YouTube channel about how the Sentientism worldview and antinatalism (the view that procreation is unethical) might relate. Come join the conversation in the comments and let us know what you think
  • Quick book update: I’ve written chapter summaries for the whole thing (need to be sharpened considerably!) and drafted the first ~50k words spanning the first 6 chapters. After having covered epistemology and moral philosophy, I’m now trying to summarise the whole of science and philosophy of mind in a single “What is Sentience?” chapter. Wish me luck! This picture shows the current structure

  • Our Sentientist Education work is well into the new UK term. We have more and more requests for school speaking coming in via RE Hubs and I’ll be workshopping Sentientism with a group of new trainee religious education teachers in a couple of weeks at University College London. More people are also exploring becoming Sentientist school speakers to help me and Sash out. If you’d like to chat please get in touch. Working in schools is the most fun part of my work on Sentientism
  • A big thank you to Sash Joliffe for generously inviting me to take up some of his speaking time at Vegan Camp Out so I could do a 5 min intro to Sentientism
  • I’m considering establishing a UK charity to help us normalise the Sentientism worldview with a little more structure and governance – and maybe some funding and staffing. I’ve drafted a constitution to submit to the Charity Commission and am, with help, thinking about the best approach and potential trustees. Advice and ideas are always welcome
  • For those who like informal text based chats we’re migrating our FaceBook community forums to their new structure. Come join us here. Under that main community you’ll find specialised chats for all sorts of different Sentientism topics
  • Don’t forget to dig through our back catalogue of Sentientism YouTube and Podcast conversations and share your favourites around. I’m biased but it’s a treasure trove of insights from our guests. I feel guilty I don’t give them the audience they deserve! I have ten more new episodes to publish too – have been going a bit more slowly as I’ve been focusing on the book.

And, as ever, thank you to alyn1988 (our first ever YouTube “member”!), Tarabella, Steven, Roy and Denise for helping to fund our costs via our Sentientism Patreon, our Ko-Fi page and via YouTube membership. You can do the same or help by picking out some Sentientism merch on Redbubble (mugs, t-shirts, stickers…) or buying our guests’ books from your local bookstore via the Sentientism Bookshop.
